Gregory Arlt, Director of Makeup Artistry for MAC Cosmetics based out of Los Angeles, was so kind as to grant Specktra an interview during the Kelly Nishimoto Imasu show Sunday.

The looks he created for the show really focused on bringing out the model’s natural skintone and a beautiful flush. Pomegranate colored lips are BIG this year, stained…not something crazy heavy and super structured. Gregory was working with a new lippie called “Crimsonaire” for the show, and I got the pleasure of watching his application and technique.

Gregory used his hands for his application, warming almost all products on his fingers or in the palm before actually putting it on. His reasoning was that it gives a more natural, dewy, just softer application, and the look for the Imasu show was meant to be soft and romantic and very naturally beautiful.

Gregory didn’t do any contouring, instead choosing to focus on highlighting the model’s skin, telling us that it makes for a much more natural and fresh appearance, while bringing her features forward.

He also told us that for fall, the one product he’s saying we must have is lipstick. Pomegranate, berry, fresh bitten colored lipstick…in a lustre style formula.

Trust me, I’m all over that.
